Summer time, and the living is easy... depending on where you live. But one thing is for sure: summer is a great time for growing vegetables and flowers AND for doing things outside.

SUMMER GARDENING IDEAS AND LINKS

  • If you love birds and bird-watching and have not tried to make your yard bird-friendly because you think it's too much work, think again! Visit A Home for Wild Birds for tons of information.
  • Home grown tomatoes? Nothing better. Want to grow them organically? Learn all about it with Organic Gardening's tomato pages.
  • And don't forget the butterflies. Create a butterfly garden! Butterflies are not only beautiful, they are beneficial pollinators for thousands of plants and you can even plant certain types of flowers their larvae need to feed on.
  • And last but not least, what about a compost heap or pile? These can be started any time of the year although summer is ideal. All you need to create compost is your vegetable matter (plus eggshells and coffee grounds), sunlight, oxygen and air!
